After disembarking from your Carnival cruise ship:
The free shuttle bus only takes you to Largo della Pace, the passenger hub 1.5 km from Civitavecchia train station.
Walking from Largo della Pace to the train station takes a minimum of 21 minutes — and with heavy bags under the Mediterranean sun (especially from May to November), it can be exhausting.
The walk from the cruise terminal directly to the train station is 2.5 km, with few sidewalks and long stretches without shade — not recommended with luggage.
There’s also a paid shuttle bus (€6 per person) from the cruise terminal directly to the train station — more comfortable than walking, but you’ll still need to manage your luggage during transfers and on trains.
